In their hey-day, the life of a champion racehorse can garner quite a lot of love and attention. However, after retirement, things can slow down – so the team at Living Legends is making sure their achievements are not forgotten.

Established in 2006, Living Legends provides a lush home at Woodlands National Park for former famous racehorses to retire to, as well as an avenue for fans past and present to visit.

Visitors can stroll around the historic buildings before taking a walk down to the back paddock to visit the champions. Today, the Living Legend horses go out on parade to Melbourne Cup and special race days, while on others they have plenty of visitors who come to them. From school groups coming to learn about the history of the park and the care of horses to old fans fulfilling the dream to meet some of the greats. Living Legends is an integral part of the Greenvale community and beyond, with a number of educational, vet, agriculture and work experience programs running in conjunction with the care of the horses.

Just a 15-minute drive from Sunbury, a visit to Living Legends is both as historically enriching as it is entertaining. If horses aren’t for you, there are over 120 historic rose plants and magnolia trees planted in the 1840s surrounding the Homestead and its stunning gardens for you to wander, so there’s a little something to please every visitor.
